ArcGIS for Natural Resources II

Please check back for when sessions of this class will be offered.

Two days

Overview

This course is designed for the ArcGIS 8.x user who has previously taken Introduction to ArcGIS for Natural Resource Organizations I or Introduction to ArcGIS I. If this prerequisite is not met, then a solid foundation in ArcGIS Desktop is necessary. This class assumes that the user knows and is comfortable with all information covered in the aforementioned courses. Students must be able to remember what they have performed previously and be able to repeat actions with perhaps some slight modifications.

Audience

This course continues concepts for data management, entry, maintenance, and analysis by using ArcMap and ArcCatalog. A long introduction to the GeoDatabase Model is presented in Chapter 1. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to general topics in the lecture. The exercises will lead students through specific activities to solidify the topics covered in the lecture and build a comfort level for operating the ArcGIS interfaces. Exercises are developed using data from the Bitterroot National Forest and focus specifically on the types of activities that natural resource organizations perform regularly. Students are expected to move past having every little step scripted. Some exercises have optional steps allowing students who work quickly to keep busy and to be challenged.

The goal for this course is for students to continue building confidence using the wide range of tools in the ArcGIS application. With a solid foundation, students will have the ability to grow into more complex activities.
