Anchorage, Alaska - GeoNorth, LLC, an Information Technology solutions provider headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, has just completed the new website www.armymountaineering.com featuring Ft. Richardson's Army Staff Sergeant Trevor Jones. The new site, titled 'Seven Summits; A Soldier's Quest', entails one local man's efforts to assist those returning from Afghanistan and Iraq with challenges they did not face prior to deployment. Staff Sergeant Jones is attempting to reach the summits of the tallest peaks on each of the world's seven continents, and is doing so to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Over 37,000 of our nation's armed forces have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts. Hundreds of thousands more are estimated to be recovering from invisible wounds of war, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, major depression, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). WWP assists wounded warriors and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery, providing programs and services to aid their physical rehabilitation and improve their mental health and well-being. Whether through caregiver retreats, combat stress programs, career and education services, or adaptive sporting opportunities, WWP empowers warriors with the tools essential to not just survive their injuries, but to thrive and achieve personal and professional success.
After reading about his quest, GeoNorth felt compelled to support Staff Sergeant Jones by building a state-of-the-art website to help him get his message out. The purpose of the site is to convey his intent, chronicle his journey, raise funds and awareness to support The Wounded Warrior Project, and to raise the funds required for the effort itself.
GeoNorth was able to utilize the Drupal Content Management System as a solution to satisfy all of Staff Sergeant Jones' requirements. Drupal is a widely popular solution because it provides a powerful, scalable, low cost/high value, easy-to-use solution to manage and grow an Internet presence. Drupal is open-source technology, meaning the code is freely available to anyone to use and modify. Drupal provides the perfect balance of abstraction where content is easily managed yet at the same time, developers, such as those at GeoNorth, can easily customize it to meet the needs of any organization. The need to provide maps to plot the locations of each summit was met by incorporating a popular Drupal module (of which there are thousands) to access the Google Maps API.
