Alaska State Geospatial Data Clearinghouse: http://www.asgdc.state.ak.us/ An extensive collection of Alaska GIS datasets ranging from boundaries( of boroughs, election districts, state parks etc) to transportation features like roads, airports, power lines, and cultural features like cities in various scales.
Alaska Geospatial Data Clearinghouse: http://agdc.usgs.gov/data/ Run by USGS Alaska Science Center this site is a virtual treasure trove of quad maps, DEMS, DRGs and DLGs for the state of Alaska. DEMS are available in 1-degree, 15-min and 7.5 min and are in zipped format. Maps are available in scales ranging from 1:2,000,000 to 1:25,000 and are in .tif format with supporting .tfw files and metadata.
USGS Earth Explorer: http://edcsns17.cr.usgs.gov/EarthExplorer/ EarthExplorer is a Web application that lets you find, preview, and download or order digital data published by the U.S. Geological Survey. In addition to Landsat MSS, TM, and ETM+ data, AVHRR, DOQ, aerial photography, and other data are also available from the site. To download data, you need to register; registration is free.
Geographic Information Network of Alaska GINA: GINA holds an extensive inventory of satellite images and aerial photos taken largely over the state of Alaska. The majority of our data is available online and can be freely downloaded. Data in GINA can be accessed via several paths:
Alaska Mapped: http://www.alaskamapped.org/ provides access to Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative (SDMI) high resolution satellite images, aerial photos, elevation, and other Alaska GIS Data layers. Most of this data is public domain and can be downloaded for free. These images are in GeoTIFF format.
National Park Service: http://www.nps.gov/akso/gis/ The NPS Data Store is a wide-ranging collection of downloadable GIS data in different formats. Has a user friendly search page that filters out results by category, NPS units and search type which can be further narrowed down using keyword, title or abstract search.
Department of Transportation, State of Alaska: http://www.dot.state.ak.us/stwdplng/mapping/index.shtml The DOT's Transportation & Public Facilities Maps contains transportation datasets of Alaska places, harbor system and public airports as downloadable shapefiles, traffic count maps, highway system maps and transportation solution maps as pdfs or as pdf map atlases can be found at the DOT site.
Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry: http://www.forestrymaps.alaska.gov/ The Forestry GIS web site is an internet mapping and information system that uses MapOptix and ArcGIS Server. The maps displayed in the web application can be converted to kml which can be used with Google Map application or post processed to shape files for use with ArcGIS.
Alaska Department of Fish and Game: http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov/gis/index.cfm? Hunting permits areas, subsistence study maps available as gif or pdfs for download.
Alaska Fire Service: http://fire.ak.blm.gov/predsvcs/maps.php runs a mapping application which supports downloading features from the layers you select to a shapefile. All data is stored in North American Datum 1983.
Bureau of Land Management: http://sdms.ak.blm.gov/sdms/ Interactive map interface portraying lands and natural resources information in Alaska. Provides data download services, access to land parcel data, documents and case reports. Data streaming available.

Geodata.gov: http://gos2.geodata.gov/ This site is still evolving, and data content is a bit hit and miss. You can access GIS data from Federal agencies and a growing number of state, local, tribal and private agencies through one complete and comprehensible portal. Includes searchable GIS data in the form of live, downloadable, offline, geographic services, application and clearing house data in categories ranging from agriculture to administrative to geologic and the search can be narrowed down within a region, community, special interest etc. This site requires registration which allows the user to share, publish, or request data.
NationalAtlas.gov: http://www.nationalatlas.gov/ NationaAtlas.gov publishes maps from more than 20 Federal organizations and most of these are free in downloadable zip format. Maps are about America's people, heritage, and resources.
