Drupal is one of a few content management system solutions available in today's market.  Other include Joomla, Sharepoint, and .NETNuke.  As Drupal and Joomla are the two most common, Sharepoint and .NETNuke solutions are higher end/higher cost solutions involving much more custom development time.  

Drupal is supported by a passionate community of thousands of developers who continuously work to enhance the functionality and security of Drupal to enterprise levels and beyond.  A community this large means clients will never be stuck without support if their developer goes out of business, and they will have free access to future upgrades and security enhancements.  Although Joomla offers similar benefits, features, and functionality, the range is not as wide as what is available with Drupal content management system solutions.
